Not what they say they want. Not what most gift guides suggest. What they actually want.
Engineers are unusually good at knowing what they want and unusually bad at communicating it to people buying gifts. "I don't need anything" is the standard response and it means "I will buy specific things for myself; please don't buy random things and expect me to act grateful." What it doesn't mean: there is nothing that would improve my daily life. Here's the list of things in the latter category, organised by what they improve.
Things that improve the daily work environment
Monitor light bar (₹4,000–6,000): BenQ ScreenBar or equivalent. Sits on the monitor, lights the desk without screen glare. Every developer who gets one loves it. High gift-success rate.
Large desk mat (₹800–1,500): 80cm or wider, minimal design. Anchors the workspace. Developers who don't have one don't know they need one.

Things that improve the daily person

Course credits or platform subscriptions (₹1,000–5,000): Frontend Masters, O'Reilly, Udemy gift cards. Only useful if you know what they'd actually use — ask before buying.
Things that improve their daily mood
Specialty coffee subscription (₹1,500–3,000 for 3 months): Blue Tokai, Subko, Halli Berri. Developers and quality coffee have a well-documented and genuine relationship. A subscription generates appreciation every morning for three months.
A nice mechanical keyboard keycap set (₹1,500–4,000): If they have a mechanical keyboard, a quality keycap set is the kind of upgrade they keep looking at and not buying themselves. Requires knowing their keyboard format (TKL, full-size, 65%) — ask before buying.
